Abstract
As described in Chapter 1, all Mandarin syllables can be represented by phonetic symbols (abbreviated as PS). The number of PS which make up a syllable varies from one to three. As expected in every language, some PS occur more often than others. The same can be said about the joint occurrences of these PS in syllables. This chapter is concerned with the frequency and Percent frequency distribution of PS, PS-pairs (digrams), PS-triplets (trigrams), PS syllables and the relative proportion of Mandarin tones.
