Zusammenfassung

Barbara McClintock hatte allen Anlaß, sich Sorgen zu machen. In diesem Sommer begegnete man ihrem Vortrag in Cold Spring Harbor mit eisigem Schweigen. Mit ein oder zwei Ausnahmen gab es niemanden, der sie verstanden hatte. Im Anschluß an ihr Referat vernahm man Gemurmel, sogar Gekicher, doch dann hagelte es offene Beschwerden. Das Ganze sei unmöglich zu verstehen. Was wollte diese Frau eigentlich?
