Zusammenfassung
Die Kulturpflanzen wie Reis, Roggen, Weizen, Hafer, u.a., die unsere Ernährung sichern, sind das Ergebnis jahrtausendealter Züchtungen. Das Ziel der Pflanzenzüchtung war stets das Gleiche: die Zucht besonders ertragsreicher Pflanzen. Wir müssen uns vergegenwärtigen, dass die Bemühungen um besonders ertragreiche Kulturpflanzen uns heute Getreide, Gemüse und Obst bescheren, bei denen die Bezeichnung «natürlich» im engeren Sinne nicht mehr gerechtfertigt scheint. Der Weizen, aus dem unser täglich Brot gebacken wird, hat eine fast 7000-jährige Zucht aus Gräsern hinter sich. Kaum wird jemals eine der heute angebauten Weizensorten von sich aus in der Natur entstehen und wachsen, niemals wird ein gepfropfter Apfel, wie viele der heute üblichen Apfelsorten, natürlicherweise entstehen.
