Abstract

The GP modeling is applied to extreme life spans of women born before and around the year 1900 and later living in West Germany. Visualization techniques indicate that a beta distribution can be fitted to the upper tail of the life span distribution. This is confirmed by estimates within the unified GP model. Using penultimate approximations, we make an attempt to clarify the relationship between beta dfs and the famous Gompertz df which has been applied to life span and reliability data during the last 170 years.
