Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kinderlied, das meine siebenjährige Tochter besonders gerne hört, wird eigentlich die gesamte Diskussion um das Aussterben der Dinosaurier zusammengefaßt. Art und Form dieser Diskussion sind selbstverständlich variabel. Doch werden in dem Maße, wie man nach den Mechanismen dieses Massensterbens forscht, immer wieder neue Theorien in atemberaubendem Tempo hervorgezaubert. Alle sind weitaus länger und detaillierter als das obige Lied, doch sind viele genauso spekulativ und unsicher. Das nun folgende Resümee der aktuellen Theorien und Überlegungen zum Tod der Dinosaurier ist von seiner Länge her irgendwo zwischen The Bang Gang und den zahlreichen Monographien zu diesem Thema angesiedelt, doch kann man mit beiden Extremen letzten Endes nur mutmaßliche Modelle vorstellen. Demnach gibt es keinen eindeutigen, «todsicheren» Anlaß, warum den Sauriern damals der Garaus gemacht wurde. Vermutlich waren eine Klimaverschlechterung, Vulkanausbrüche und der Einschlag eines Kometen gemeinsam daran schuld, daß sie vom Erdboden verschwanden.
