Abstract

Little is known about limiting factors in ecology of littoral and sublittoral marine sponges (de Laubenfels, 1953b, 1957c), especially with regard to quantitative properties of the medium, such as temperature, hydrodynamics, illumination, salinity, turbidity (different organic and mineral constituents in suspension and solution), and oxygen content, over a significant period of time. This is particularly true for tropical waters.
