Zusammenfassung

Zu den derzeit wichtigsten logischen Schaltungen gehören die arithmetischen Schaltungen. Sie finden in allen Tischrechnern und digitalen Rechenmaschinen, aber auch in Digitalfiltern, digitalen Korrelatoren und in vielen andern digitalen Systemen Anwendung. Arithmetische Schaltungen sind in der Regel sequentielle Schaltungen. Man unterscheidet bei den arithmetischen Schaltungen zwischen serieller und paralleler Ein- und Ausgabe, je nachdem ob die einzelnen Bits einer Zahl (Binärzahl oder BCD-Zahl) in Serie (also nacheinander) oder Parallel (das heisst miteinander) ein- bzw. ausgegeben werden1. Alle arithmetischen Schaltungen, bei denen mindestens eine Ein- oder Ausgabe seriell erfolgt, enthalten zwangsläufig sequentielle Elemente (zum Beispiel Flip-flops) und sind demnach sequentielle Schaltungen.
