Abstract

The start-up of VEPP-4 is the main subject of the present report. Experiments were carried out at the energy of ψ and ψ′ mesons. The maximum luminosity was 3 × 1028 cm−2 s−1 at an energy of 1.85 GeV. The resonance depolarization of a polarized beam allowed an absolute energy calibration to be made with an accuracy better than 1 × 10−4. This made it possible to improve, by more than an order of magnitude, the accuracy of measuring the masses of ψ and ψ′ mesons. The experiments in the region of the Y-meson family and with the use of the MD-1 detector have been scheduled to start this year. It should be added that the transverse magnetic field of this detector provides good possibilities for studying two-photon processes.
