Ist eine einparametrige Kurvenschar gegeben in einer der beiden Formen:
wo c der Scharparameter ist, so heißt eine Kurve (E): ξ = ξ (c), η = η (c) eine Enveloppe oder Einhüllende der Schar, wenn E von jeder der Scharkurven berührt wird, in einem dem Scharparameter c entsprechenden Punkt.
