Die Bewegung der Ladungsträger unter dem Einfluss äusserer Kräfte oder als Folge von Dichtegradienten gibt Anlass zu den sog. Transportphänomenen. Die Ladungsträger transportieren einerseits elektrische Ladung (elektrische Stromdichte, elektrische Leitfähigkeit) und andererseits Energie (Wärmestromdichte, Wärmeleitfähigkeit).
