Changes in Electrolytes and Trace Elements During Long-Lasting Exercise

  • Chapter
Metabolic Adaptation to Prolonged Physical Exercise

Abstract

Although mineral substances have been studied much less extensively in comparison to carbohydrates or fats, there are a number of new facts and interesting developments in this matter, even if only the papers published since the last Symposium on Exercise Biochemistry [48] are considered. Therefore this paper will be limited to the changes observed in potassium, magnesium and several heavy metals in various body fluids during exercise, with their possible physiological and biochemical implications.
