Analyzing Power of n-p and n-d Elastic Scattering at E_n = 14.5 MeV

Abstract

Using a polarized neutron beam arrangement ¹⁰⁾ the analyzing power of elastic neutron-proton- and neutron-deuteron scattering was determined. Neutrons with energy E_n =14.5 MeV and polarization Q=(42.9 − 1.0)% from the reaction ²H (d,n) ³He were scattered by a C₆H₆- or C₆D₆-scintillator respectively. By use of a spin precessing magnetic field the asymmetry of the scattering was measured for five different angles simultaneousely. In this experiment the energies of the incoming and scattered neutrons (both determined by time-of-flight techniques) and the energy of the recoil particle was detected in coincidence. Fig.l shows our experimental data of the n-p-analyzing power together with some recent results from other laboratories.
