Abstract
As chairman of the Swiss National Committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics I have the honor to welcome you in the name of the Union to the 4th International Symposium on Polarization Phenomena in nuclear reactions. Like a week ago at the opening of the cyclotron conference, I wish to express our satisfaction that the organizers of the conference have asked for the Union’s sponsorship, although this engagement encompasses always a very small financial assistance. This shows therefore that the help of the Union in organizing and coordinating scientific conferences, as it has been done now for more than 50 years, is still appreciated by the scientific community.
