Abstract
Christoffel came 1862 to Zurich as successor to Dedekind. By that time, the polytechnical school was only seven years old and had no organized studies in mathematics. Christoffel, highly appreciated in Zurich as teacher and researcher, was the organizer of the school of mathematics and sciences. Well aware of the importance of Riemann’s work, he used his influence to obtain the appointment of Prym, a young student of Riemann. Both left the school in 1869. Their successors were Hermann Amandus Schwarz and Heinrich Weber.
