Introduction

Abstract

This book consists mostly of unpublished documents that provide an outline of the life of Hermann Günther Graßman (1809 – 1877). These documents are being published as a collection in order to bring into prominence and raise public awareness of a multifaceted scholar whose work has created and sent an impulse extending to the present day, particularly to mathematics and linguistics. The volume is the second element in a triad of publications celebrating Graßman’s 200^th birthday: the triad includes a biography and an interdisciplinary anthology of his work.
