Abstract
This chapter introduces the concept of an interrupt (IRQ) as a way to efficiently deal with asynchronous external events that the CPU must handle [1–3]. The details of the MSP430 interrupt system are then presented and an example of using the port interrupts on the LaunchPadTM board is examined.
