Abstract
The practice of anesthesiology combines critical care, technical skills, real-time physiology and pharmacology, and a wide variety of clinical practice settings to fit in with your interests and priorities outside of work. Becoming an anesthesiologist begins as early as medical school with strong clinical performance and good boards preparation. The rewards of a career in anesthesiology are numerous; it is a platform from which you can practice in many different settings and clinical subspecialties. This chapter offers advice on how to stand out during your anesthesiology rotations, suggested reading topics, a template for basic preoperative evaluation, tips for navigating the Match, and an overview of the many possible career trajectories you can choose within anesthesiology.
