Abstract
This study investigated the feasibility of using gaze pointing in modern user interface (UI). Experiments were conducted to assess the impact of the modern UI layout (tile size, dynamic or static target tile, and interference tile) on gaze pointing movement time. A total of 13 participates were recruited, and their gaze pointing operation movement time under 12 experimental settings were measured. The scenarios contained different tile sizes as well as a dynamic or static target tile and an interference tile. When the interference tile was static, the gaze pointing movement time decreased as the tile size increased. However, when the tile size was larger than 96 pixels, the gaze pointing movement time no longer changed as tile size increased. The individual differences of the participants had a substantial impact on the operational performance of the gaze pointing interface, which is a challenge to be overcome when gaze pointing and the modern UI are integrated for future applications.
