Abstract
Because of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Saudi Arabian government established a new online learning platform to help students in primary and high schools continue their learning from home. This study aims to examine the effects of online learning on teachers and students. For that, we asked 40 teachers and 123 students about their user experiences with the new platform. Most of the teachers and students were satisfied with their experience. However, they both claimed that a lack of motivation and engagement and missing interactions with peers and teachers were the greatest shortcomings of online learning. To compensate for this, teachers aimed to use different tools and provide games and gamification elements in their online lessons to motivate and engage students.
