Dizziness or “Spells”: An Endocrine Approach

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Dizziness may be the presenting symptom of multiple underlying issues, including some endocrine disorders such as hypoglycemia, adrenal insufficiency or thyroid disorders. Similarly, “spells” that may include dizziness, palpitations, sweating, flushing or pallor, and headache or abdominal pain have a wide differential diagnosis including hypoglycemia, or, much less commonly, pheochromocytoma, carcinoid, or mastocytosis. This chapter will discuss the diagnostic approach to dizziness and spells, with particular attention to possible endocrine causes of these symptoms.
