Abstract

To stay competitive in a world in which providing great customer experience has become paramount, companies in nearly every industry must continuously develop digital products and services as well as the business processes that support those products and services. To compete with digital-born companies, traditional firms need to adopt a much different approach to designing and managing enterprise architecture that will enable continual changes to and a modular design of business capabilities as well as the technologies behind them. In the following, we introduce a new “perpetual evolution” approach that allows for this by changing out elements of enterprise architecture quickly, adding new parts in no time, and incorporating the latest and greatest functionality. We also explore what is required to shift to this newer approach. Lastly, we demonstrate the model with examples and explain how companies can streamline their legacy business processes and mindsets.
