    This ruling was a result of the Printz V. United States case in 1997. The Clinton administration passed a legislation that would force local law enforcement to enforce federal gun registration laws. The supreme court, then invalidated this law deeming that the Federal government could not force local government to enforce state laws based on the Tenth Amendment that asserts that ‘[t]he powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people’.
