Noninvasive Ventilation in Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Critical Care

Abstract

The respiratory failure management in NMD is complex. A correct choice of NIV initiation with a correct evaluation of lung function, sleep disorders, and symptoms is very important, besides a selection of appropriate interfaces and ventilator settings. With the progression of NMD, there is an increase of NIV dependence with the evaluation of multiple interface exchanges and different ventilation profiles for daytime and nocturnal ventilation, and for this reason, a key role is played by a proper follow-up. Adequate NIV management and mucus clearance therapy reduce morbidity and mortality.
