Abstract
In this essay, Joel Pontius stories his relationship with elk from his first encounter as an eleven-year-old. Join Joel as he learns to communicate with elk, move with them through mountainous landscapes, and as he learns to hunt elk with all that entails. What other relationships grow in connection with hunting elk? How does his practice of listening change? Through the process, Joel’s perspective shifts on what it means to live in the more-than-human world.
