Abstract
Global efforts capturing and storing CO2 have initiated a variety of trials to utilize CO2 in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) or enhanced gas recovery (EGR). This Chapter has described the hybrid technologies to introduce the potentials of carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) and EOR/EGR. Section 5.1 has reviewed the advanced CO2 EOR technologies incorporating low salinity water injection (LSWI) or smart water injection (SWI). The CO2 water-alternating gas (WAG) and carbonated water injection (CWI) are water-based CO2 EOR, which could be integrated with the LSWI or SWI. Applications of the hybrid CO2 WAG or CWI combining with LSWI/SWI are reviewed in terms of EOR and CO2 storage capacity. In Sect. 5.2, the applications of CO2 injection, which are intended to produce hydrocarbon from shale gas and oil reservoirs and store CO2 into the depleted shale reservoirs, have been described.
