Abstract
Research indicates that communities would prefer to be involved in their local leisure activities. Visitors gain satisfaction from experiences they engage in. Understanding these experiences is important to destinations. The purpose of this research was to understand visitor and community perceptions of the Crescent Hotel and Pump Room, Buxton, the U.K. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. Key themes emerging suggest that both visitors and community residents identified the history, architecture, outdoor environment and surrounding beauty as appealing. Themes regarding future use of the Pump Room revealed conflicting opinions. Visitors tended to prefer more entertainment venues. We argue that residents and visitors needed a clearer understanding of the Pump Room to have a better vision of how it can best be sustained.
