Intimidating Effects of Heavy Metals on Mentha Species and Their Mitigation Using Scientific Approaches

Contaminants in Agriculture

Abstract

Scanty literature is available on the effect of various heavy metals (HMs) on Mentha species and their mitigation using different emerging trends. Keeping the prevailing problem regarding the contamination of HMs in soils of the country, we could ameliorate the adverse effects of these HMs by implementing different scientific approaches (nanotechnology, radiation biology, PGR application, etc.). By applying diverse PGRs and through the use of oligosaccharides (in the depolymerized form), the critical situation might get solved to some extent in the agriculture system. This chapter covers the promotive effect of various phytohormones, potent growth regulators, and selected irradiated polysaccharides on the physiological performance of Mentha species under HMs stress.
