Abstract
This offers an overview of what has been established during the course of the study in relation to its main themes: George Moore’s creative process and development, the significance of literary rewriting in general as a deliberate, communicative act, and the contribution that pragmatic theory can make to our understanding of the relationship established between a literary text and its readers. It argues that Moore’s various acts of rewriting were not simply processes of ‘updating’ older works. Rather, they can be seen as significant components in their own right in the way in which he developed as a writer and fulfilled his distinct intentions for each of his works of prose fiction.
