Abstract
On the pathway to a low-carbon future the State Council of China has designated Zhangjiakou, a region neighbouring the capital Beijing with 4.4 million people, to become China’s first Renewable Energy (RE) Demonstration Zone. The project is, among others, supported by China National RE Centre, IRENA in Bonn, and the German Ministry of the Environment—they presented an official project analysis in Nov. 2019 (irena.org/publication).
