Abstract

According to the authors’ opinion, formed on the basis of numerous definitions proposed by many researchers as well as the recovery and analysis of new geological materials, mud volcanism represents one manifestation on the Earth’s surface of local gas flows emanating from deep hydrocarbon sources. Accompanying these flows are eruptions of breccia, clastic rock material, and water, all contributing to the formation of specific relief features, such as conical hills with craters at their top and sometimes round lakes.
