Abstract

In 1943, the Geological and Mining Service (GMD) was founded, and exploration efforts were stepped up. Before then, surveying was restricted to traverses of rivers and large creeks on geological field missions. The highlight of the earlier period of exploration was IJzerman’s “Outline of the Geology and Petrology of Suriname,” published in 1931, which covered all of Suriname’s territory.
