Abstract

We begin with a sphere of radius R with no electric current on its surface and no magnetic field in or around it. Then, we turn on a current at the surface of the sphere. Consider an idealized scenario in which someone at the center of the sphere suddenly strikes a match at time t = 0. The light from the match moves outward at speed c, and arrives at the sphere at the time t = Rc.
