Abstract

Manno argues that Donald Trump embodies the values of the Poker Mindset in a particularly striking way. The chapter draws upon research about Trump voters during the 2016 election, Trump’s campaign as outsider candidate, and both Trump’s and Trump voters’ authoritarian tendencies. Further, Manno makes the case that Trump’s lies and deceptions, focus on independent action, penchant for revenge, desire to “fight, not fold,” history of corruption, and accusations of sexual harassment and assault powerfully demonstrate over-conforming to the values of the Poker Mindset.
