Abstract
Manno examines how the ideology of the Poker Mindset manifests in normalized corruption stemming from unequal access to power and resources. In doing so, the chapter defines neoliberalism and casino capitalism. Further, Manno argues that traditional masculinity and neoliberalism result in the normalization of increased risk and uncertainty for workers, creating a “stacked deck” in favor of businesses and employers and against workers. The chapter includes examples from the payday lending industry, higher education, the efforts of the Koch brothers to influence the political process, and the transformation of Bethlehem, PA into post-industrial casino capitalist exemplar.
