Abstract
The whole-bread intake has a major effect on the colon activity as such an intake doubles the total intake of the dietary fiber and the polyphenols intake. The dietary fiber covers the main energy supply of the colon microbiota which has a major effect on the human immune system as well as many other physiological outcomes. A marked increase in the microbiota count/mL exists along the gut with 104 in the esophagus, 103 in the stomach, 103 in the jejunum, a gradual increase in the ileum up to 108, and 1011 in the colon.
