Abstract
The paper presents the analysis of the agricultural exploitation of land resources of Russia at present, points out the problems in agriculture and identifies the main desertification control activities. This work is aimed at developing a number of guidelines for the control of degradation of agricultural lands in the south of Russia as a result of desertification. Research methodology consists of the analysis of modern condition of farm land and definition of threats of degradation of land due to desertification on the basis of a wide variety of archived and current statistical sources on the use of available land of the Russian Federation. As a result, the authors of this research revealed consistent patterns and trends in the quantitative condition of farm land, developed several operational guidelines contributing to the slowdown of desertification of the most valuable productive lands.
