Abstract
During the past years, the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has received increased attention as an excellent target for prostate carcinoma (PC) imaging and therapy. PSMA, also known as glutamate carboxypeptidase II, N-acetyl-α-linked acidic dipeptidase I, or folate hydrolase, is an enzyme which is significantly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells. Another advantages of PSMA are its transmembraneous location with a large extracellular domain and its enzyme activity which allows the development of specific inhibitors and their internalization after ligand binding.
