Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between information and communication in the context of smart cities. A review of the research literature for information and communication in relation to sensibilities, sharing, and interactive public spaces in smart cities is provided in formulation of a theoretical perspective for this work. Using a case study approach in combination with an explanatory correlational design, this paper examines the relationship between communication, in the form of sharing and interactive public spaces, and information in the form of urban sensibilities in technology-rich smart cities. Findings reveal a glimpse of the complexities associated with the communication and information relationship in urban environments. This work is significant in that it contributes to the research literature for smart cities; points to the value of identifying patterns and relationships through involving people more directly and meaningfully in understandings of smart cities; and highlights the importance of identifying correlations to inform the development of smart cities and future cities going forward.
