Abstract
Engineering as a profession and engineers celebrated significant accomplishments in the 20th century that enhanced and transformed every facet of human and social life. The 21st century poses challenges as daunting as any from past centuries and thus adds to the changing curricular landscape for engineering educators and institutions. Today’s engineering schools are facing unique obstacles coupled with high expectations to produce graduates who can function and thrive in the 21st century. Technological advancements and societal changes in the 21st century place a demand on engineers to design, create and deploy technologies and solutions that satisfy complex technical, ethical and sustainability requirements.
