Abstract

This paper introduces a study on the calculation of the optimum gear ratios of a two-step worm gearbox. To find the optimum gear ratios, an optimization problem in which the reasonable gearbox structure was chosen as the objective function was conducted. The influences of the input parameters including the total gearbox ratio, the electric motor speed and the output torque were explored. To evaluate the effects of these input parameters on the optimum gear ratios, a simulation experiment was designed and performed by computer programs. Moreover, equations to calculate the optimum gear ratios of a two-step worm gearbox were proposed. Using these equations, the calculation of optimum gear ratios is precise and uncomplicated.
