Abstract

Reading comprehension is a cognitive activity, which development promotes complex and fundamental processes helpful to access learning; it is connected to the world understanding in a participatory way. Consequently, it is essential to acquire this ability at an early age. Particularly for children, the videogames motivational aspect makes them an attractive resource in reading comprehension. In this paper is presented the development process of a serious game as a support for the reading comprehension process. The videogame is oriented to strategies related to syntax through fill-in-the-blank exercises. The game tutorial is illustrative for the children to understand the game mechanics, the avatar movements and the interaction with the game elements; an exploratory study was conducted to observe its effectiveness.
