Abstract
The array of minimally invasive interventions for chronic head and neck pain has grown rapidly with the advent of technologies that allow for targeting of various components of the nervous system. Reducing pain by altering neuronal dynamics has led to expanded basic science research which, in turn, has informed the refinement, broader application, and more rapid development of next-generation techniques. These minimally invasive modalities have allowed patients another option, in addition to medications and surgery, to obtain relief. The popularity and success of these techniques in the last few years have brought renewed interest and belief in the peripheral theory for headaches and migraines and allowed headache neurologists and specialists to realize the value that peripheral treatments (including surgery) can bring to their patients.
