Abstract
Previous studies have shown that criminal behaviour is mainly associated with antisocial, borderline, narcissistic, and other personality disorders. Nevertheless, the majority of studies focused on specific classes of perpetrator belonging to non-organized crime (NOC) groups. Concerning organised crime (OC), the psychological evidence is scanty with only a few studies focusing on personality traits. Here we tested 100 prisoners (50 OC and 50 NOC criminals) with a personality test. Results showed that masochistic personality disorder was more likely to occur in OC than in NOC prisoners. These findings may contribute to delineating a further detailed behavioural profile of OC members.
