Abstract

The forests of Nepal cover a huge portion of its land area (44.74%) and facilitates the livelihood of 76% of the total population. They are directly responsible for the conservation of every environmental aspect. Hence, to ensure the sustainability of the condition of the forests and the goods and services that are provided by them, their management is necessary. Realizing that the involvement of local people can effectively manage and conserve forests, the government introduced different plans and policies which made the local people to get involved in forest management activities which benefitted them in return. This helped to reclaim the degraded forests and provide valuable support for conservation and promotion of soil and watershed, wildlife, tourism.
