    Moskprofobr: Моskovskii podotdel professional’no-tekhnicheskogo obrazovanie (Moscow subdivision of professional technical training). This institution oversaw the varied professional and technical schools and training after the 1917 Revolution.

    Bernstein’s Obshchaya Biomekhanika (General Biomechanics), published in 1926, was his contribution to the developing science of biomechanics, including his foundational work on human locomotion. Though Bernstein was the first scientist in the world to develop the study of movement as a way of studying the workings of the brain, this book has never been translated into English.

    Bernstein writes ‘first grade’ and in 1923–4 this referred to the education of children aged 8–13.

    Fabzavucha (Factory-and-works school) Fabrichno-zavodskoye uchenichestvo dlya podrostkov pri predpriyatii. FZU schools offered manufacturing apprenticeships for young people in industry and were trade schools offering basic professional education or vocational training.
