Abstract
Teaching moderate sedation to the level of competency is a complex undertaking that requires an understanding of the ADA Guidelines for Teaching Pain Control and Sedation to Dentists and Dental Students, as well as individual state dental board permitting requirements. The course director should be an individual qualified by experience and training in moderate sedation, deep sedation, or general anesthesia. Curricular development is standardized to conform with the ADA Guidelines, and a mechanism must be developed to adequately assess the trainee’s performance and competency during the course.
Teaching brings out innate powers, and proper training braces the intellect.
