Abstract

The development, content, and psychometric properties of commonly used parent and teacher rating scales are the focus of this chapter. Because of their contact with children in different settings, parent and teacher informants often provide unique and useful information about the child’s functioning. The potential strengths and limitations of the ratings obtained by parents and teachers are discussed. Parents and teachers typically only demonstrate moderate agreement; thus, the factors that influence the degree to which their reports are discrepant are also examined.
