Book cover Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Personality and Behavior

Abstract

This chapter discusses some of the key ethical principles and standards that are most relevant to the clinical assessment of children and adolescents. Readers are directed to key sources that provide guidance on these standards, which should be a reference to anyone conducting clinical assessments. Topics include a discussion of the basic elements of informed consent and some unique considerations to the consent process when testing children and adolescents. Other topics include a discussion of what is meant by an “evidence-based” assessment and how this relates to standards of practice. We also discuss issues related to fairness in testing, such as making accommodations for children or adolescents with a disability and how to minimize bias in testing.
