Abstract
This chapter discusses the use of projective techniques in the clinical assessment of children and adolescents. Key issues in the debate over whether or how projective techniques should be used in clinical assessments are discussed. Issues in the use of projective techniques from a clinical versus psychometric framework and from a traditional projection versus a behavioral sample framework are reviewed, with implications for how information from these techniques should be used in clinical assessments. Basic interpretative strategies are provided for the major projective techniques, including inkblot, thematic storytelling, sentence completion, and projective drawing techniques.
