Abstract
This introductory chapter addresses what anxiety looks like and how it impacts children. Symptoms of different anxiety disorders based on diagnostic definitions are reviewed. Information on prevalence of anxiety and medication management ideas are briefly presented. An in-depth overview of cognitive behavioral interventions to help young children and adolescents overcome anxiety is introduced. A case study focusing on a child with anxiety sensitivity and separation issues is presented.
